Sudlows ensures a more powerful Co-operative Group
|
|
August 2010, Manchester UK:
Sudlows Limited, a data centre design and build specialist, has won a £600,000 contract with The Co-operative Financial Services, an integral division of the renowned Co-operative Group, to perform a data centre power upgrade at their North Manchester site. Sudlows, who recently completed an earlier phase on this multi-million pound project, will upgrade the 900m² rack space to attain a 2MVA resilient power capacity and deliver a much higher cooling capacity for total data centre protection.
As a key endorser of the EU Code of Conduct for data centre efficiency, which is a series of voluntary measures laying out minimum efficiency standards, Sudlows will incorporate advanced components within the data centre including an AVK Titan UPS system and Airedale SmartCool precision cooling for reduced energy consumption and increased uptime.
Andy Hirst, Specialist Projects Director at Sudlows, commented;
"The Co-operative Group operates in the most socially and ecologically responsible manner and upholds unique environmental policies concerning their IT infrastructure. Unlike other data centre installers, we have the technical knowledge and resources to recommend the right products for the most reliable and future-proofed facility".
Rob Fenney as Manager of Data Centre Planning for The Co-operative Financial Services added;
"Sudlows have recently provided the design and delivery of Data Centre solutions for both the Co-operative Group and the Cooperative Financial Services (CFS). As Data Centre Manager for CFS, I have been more than satisfied with the attention to detail provided by Sudlows, not only during the delivery of the Phase 1 but also the support provided as the new Data Hall moved from Project to a Live Environment. The excellent relationship forged with Sudlows gives me the confidence for the delivery of Phase 2, which will incorporate upgrades of the Mechanical and Electrical infrastructure."

Sudlows to Install Innovative Flywheel Technology for Local Government
|
|
August 2010, Manchester UK:
Data centre design and build specialist, Sudlows Limited, have won a new £1.5 million project to develop a data centre facility for North-West based Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. The innovative Tier 2 / 3 design, as defined by the Uptime Institute, is set to achieve an annualised Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.4, in part due to the utilisation of the latest in flywheel technology, rather than conventional battery based energy storage systems, resulting in a highly efficient system, even at part loads down to 25%.
Outdoor Glycol Free Cooling will ventilate the 48 server racks and further reduce the environmental impact by maximising the region's ambient air temperatures. Sudlows have also offered Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council the option of a combined UPS Genset designed to reach 96% efficiency even when processing low load levels.
Unlike other major data centre locations, this critical facility will uniquely incorporate external planning resources for effective management and co-ordination of main data centre operations.
Specialist Projects Director at Sudlows, Andy Hirst commented "We have offered Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council a far more cost-effective and environmentally sound alternative to traditional systems in order to achieve their high environmental targets. Data centre cooling has always been one of the highest consumers of energy and thanks to our low temperature climate we are ideally located to take advantage of Free Cooling disciplines".
Mike Zammit, Director of BT&IT at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: "The new data centre will provide extra capacity for Blackburn with Darwen Council to plan for future growth in IT services. It will also improve our energy efficiency, saving the Council money, through the latest green technology and provide a secure and resilient facility away from our main operational hub."

INS Sudlows seeing double!
|
|
After undergoing an extensive assessment by both Constructionline and CHAS (Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme) INS Sudlows are delighted to announce their full Accreditation status.
CHAS is renowned as the standard for vetting potential contractors. Over the years local authority health and safety and procurement professionals have developed the Contractor Health and Safety assessment scheme (CHAS) with the support of the Health and Safety Executive.
The scheme is available for use by any public or private sector organisations to use when shortlisting contractors, suppliers and consultants (companies) who apply to work for them. Constructionline is the Government's national register for contractors, consultants and suppliers, which is owned and endorsed by the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (formerly the DTI).
Constructionline is the UK's register of pre-qualified local and national construction and construction-related contractors and consultants. In the same way that CHAS offers a tool for use in the health and safety element of pre-qualification, Constructionline provides the pre-qualification tool for use in financial standing, technical references and other areas.
To achieve Accreditation status applicants must meet their client standards for placement in areas such as technical ability, equalities, insurance cover, environment and health and safety. Assessing contractors is usually a lengthy process, particularly when it comes to health and safety.
